About Gerald
In 1983, Holly Springs had no traffic lights and no sewer system but Gerald Holleman had a vision. The new Mayor saw growth all around and knew some of it was destined for Holly Springs. Over his seventeen years as mayor, the town was successful in securing more than $17M in state and federal funds to build the town’s first sewer system, restore the Bass Lake Dam, secure waterlines, establish a police department and EMS and secure NC Department of Transportation funding to build the 55 Bypass.
Even as these activities were taking place, Gerald facilitated efforts to establish Holly Springs Elementary School, Holly Ridge Elementary School, and Holly Ridge Middle School. During his service as Mayor, the town’s population grew from 900 to10,000, always maintaining a balance between resident’s quality of life and taxes. Understanding that too much growth too fast diminishes quality of life, he sought to maintain the balance that makes a community valuable to residents. He is dedicated to restoring balance through tax cuts and a one year moratorium on new residential development.
Gerald, along with Tracey Goodwin, and Vinnie DeBenedetto believes that those in public service should be accountable to taxpayers and has signed a
Personal Integrity Pledge as an Elected Official of Holly Springs
“I do not seek elected office for personal gain and I promise I will not work for or on behalf of anyone wanting to do business with the town. Neither I or any member of my family will have any financial dealings with the town. All my decisions and votes will be based on what is in the best interest of the residents of Holly Springs.”
